LEST WE FORGET

The Gunny got an email from a buddy who bought "Pacific" and said that it was nothing but a liberal whinefest and as far away from the truth as anything out of Rangel's mouth. Another Hollywood pile of dogsqueeze to ignore. Why was "Band of Brothers" so good? Oh yeah, we were fighting other white guys and as Tom Hanks vomited, the war in the Pacific was all  because, how did he say it? Oh yeah, "they don't look like us". Was Pearl Harbor deleted in the liberal revised history book he was reading? Maybe his version, possibly written by William Ayers, had the Japanese fighting a war of liberation? The Gunny wonders if these men might have something to say to Hanks.

Men who died on the Arizona on 7 Dec, 1941

In memory of those on Pearl Harbor Day. WE, will not forget as others have.

  1. Gunny,
I won't watch any kind of war movie any more. In fact, just "normal" every day movies are so full of liberal spin that I can hardly watch any thing any more. I watch NCIS on tv, and even they put lib spin on several things I've seen. I won't leave them that spin to the left on my DVR.
Hollywood is a soviet, liberal cess pool!!

  2. If you have not been to the Arizona Memorial, you need to put it on your bucket list.If that does not move one,you have NO understanding of history. I still get teary-eyed thinking about having been there. I simply do not believe most liberals truly understand what happened there that day. A very profound experience for anyone remotely interested in ACTUAL U.S. history.

  3. There are Hollywood films that do portray Pearl Harbor in a more historic and realistic light.
I'm thinking of "Tora, tora, tora" as well as "Pearl Harbor".
Tora was as close to historical perspective as Tinsel Town can get.
Pearl was memorable, to me, because of the scenes during the attack of sailors trapped below deck. One of the ships I served on was from WWII and I knew exactly where they were. If that movie had come out before I joined up I probably would have joined the Army...
The Arizona memorial is, to me, as sacrosanct as the Alamo. That is from a Texan's mouth.

  4. Nanna,

I think that Hollywood is lazy and stupid and that they have forgotten how to make a movie. They simply program a computer and shit comes out.

Now I read where Lucas says that they can bring dead actors back to life digitally to make a movie. What crap.

  5. Clyde,

We stopped at Hickam coming off of an op but did not have the time to check it out. I grew up with a kid whose Dad was at PH.

  6. Buck,

Tora was great, PH with Affleck not so much.

The Old Man was at Pearl in March 42 when they were still cleaning up and he said it was still bad.

The main lesson of never again being unprepared cannot be forgotten but the left simply cannot grasp it.

  8. Gunny I would mildly disagree with your friend's take on the Pacific series. I thought the episodes about Guadalcanal and Peleliu were good. I also thought they did honor to John Basilone's courage and sacrifice. But by the end of the series I detected a message that we treated the Japs too harshly (which is bullsh!t, IMHO).
I will never forget Pearl Harbor as my grandfather served in the Marines on Saipan, Iwo Jima and Okinawa. He never spoke about the action he saw but he would unapologetically express his hatred of the Japanese until the day he died. Those of us that remember and revere history will never forget the lessons learned from Pearl Harbor.

  9. I watched "The Pacific" and found it to be exceptional. The emotional aspects of it are quite true to Eugene Sledge's "With the Old Breed at Peleliu and Okinawa". The Pacific War saw butchery and savagery that made the European campaigns look tame, and the men who fought there got the zap on their head in much higher numbers.

  11. I watched every episode with my next door neighbor, who is a former Marine. We both gave it big thumbs up. The Australia episode has some VERY NICE footage! Shall we say STIMULATING?
